The culture of pop is running me ragged... part 2
I need a nap. A Rip Van Winkle-esque slumber. After being devoid of cultural moments for well over a year, nature and red carpets are indeed healing. About two months ago I wrote a piece titled The Culture of Pop is Running me ragged - welcome to part deux. I am by no means complaining by this onslaught of moments - I am simply delirious trying to keep up with it all.
I have a personal goal to watch all of the Oscar front-runner movies, as I typically have only viewed two or three (maybe four) in time for the annual awards show. I recently saw the psychological thriller which is Spencer, and was positively blown away by Kristen Stewart. Aside from several minor characters, Ms. Stewart is the entire movie. Not once was I in doubt of her accent abilities or capability to play Lady Di, as she nailed every inflection and quirk. She did the damn thing. As I tweeted, this award season will truly be the battle of the actresses who studied an accent for 6 months, the other being Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.
Speaking of…
There is nothing more thrilling, exciting, gripping than a Gaga press tour (especially when it’s a project she’s excited about). The House of Gucci press tour has been exceptionally riveting in the fashion department, from the purple Gucci dress to the custom Armani Privé black dress and the red Versace corset dress from 1995.
As for my House of Gucci viewing schedule? I am planning on seeing it in theaters no less than four times. You can catch me settled by myself on November 26 in the theater for my first viewing of the film (this is my sacred move for any new Gaga project). I did warn you of Lady Gaga content in the coming weeks.
We’re a mere two days away from Adele’s new album, which Rolling Stone has proclaimed it to be “the best Adele Album yet.” A bold claim! I have yet to watch her one-night only concert and Oprah interview (save for a few clips on Twitter), but plan to over Thanksgiving. On a girls trip this weekend, it will be a fight to play 30 or the ten-minute All Too Well. Oh, we should talk about that.
Our healthy belter star wearing Schiaparelli Saturn earrings and showcasing her Saturn tattoo while performing at Griffith Observatory. She has previously spoken about experiencing her Saturn return.
*BREAKING* in the final edits of this post - Adele has shared To Be Loved on Twitter. Run, don’t walk!
As someone who once would tweet disparaging things about Taylor Swift circa 2012 (pathetic!), who would have thought that my first Facebook “fight” would be in defense of her. I can understand not liking Taylor, but I cannot understand misogyny.
I have also issued an apology to my friend Tricia, who has been singing the praises of All Too Well since Red was released, but I did not yet understand its magnitude. It took me nearly nine years to finally get it, and get it I have. If you are a Taylor-scoffer, I implore you to suspend your previous notions of the singer and just listen and enjoy the song. I think I’ll do that right now.
Of the new lyrics, this is my favorite:
They say all's well that ends well, but I'm in a new hell
Every time you double-cross my mind
And last but not least, we couldn’t be happier for Britney, as her thirteen-year conservatorship has finally ended. While “stan” culture often and (rightfully) has negative connotations, this is a case in which it’s done a lot of good. I’m sure much more will come out about this, and we’ll be staying tuned.
